1. Wash and dry the pit.

Once you’ve eaten your avocado, hold on to the pit. Wash and dry the pit so that there is no residue.

2. Fill a mason jar with water.

Choose a pot large enough to hold the pit. Fill the water almost to the brim. Next, find the broad end  of the pit. This will be the part that points to the water.

3. Press three toothpicks around the pit

Place the toothpicks so about one inch of the avocado pit is submerged in the water. These will suspend the pit over the edge of the pot and help it stay level.

4. Place the jar in a warm, sunny spot.

Make sure to avoid direct sunlight. The window sill is good. Your plant will begin to grow roots and stems in two to six weeks.

5. Top up with water if necessary.

If you don’t see any growth after eight weeks, start over with another pit. Once the stem is six to seven inches long, cut it in half.

 6. Plants in the soil.

When the roots grow and the leaves appear again, plant them in the soil in a pot about 10 centimeters wide, leaving half of the seeds above the soil.

Avocado plant care

Avocado plant care

Avocado trees are easy to care for, as long as you follow a few tips.

Keep your plants happy with these tips.

Keep your avocado tree in a warm and sunny spot.

Avocado trees grow in the sun. If you’re indoors, place your plant next to a large south-facing window or sliding glass door.

Water frequently by applying deeply at times.

Keep your avocado moist but not saturated. As with most plants, make sure the soil is well drained.

Pinch the plant for better growth.

Pinch the stem whenever your plant is still about six inches tall, to make it stand out.

Try planting your plants outside.

If you live in a warm enough climate, plant your plant outside as soon as it is big. Over time (we’re talking years), this can pay off.
